Halter Ranch
// summary
We are making Halter Ranch’s website less confusing (and more beautiful, too.)
// problem statement
Halter Ranch does more than just sell fantastic wine. They are a travel destination, with so much to see and explore while on the ranch. Besides fixing their current site’s confusing navigation, we wanted to create a digital experience to make users really feel like they were there.

What is the main reason that someone wouldn’t buy wine online?
Because they can’t taste it first!
Halter Ranch has a beautiful product with fantastic photography, but their website isn’t doing it justice. They have hundreds of members for their wine club, but every single one of them had signed up in person. How can we recreate the atmosphere of the ranch to help people feel like they’re really there?
I streamlined the navigation, making it easier to find what’s happening at the ranch and make reservations. We brightened and overhauled their product detail page by using high-quality imagery of the wine being poured. By being able to see the color and the body of the wine, we’re able to recreate some of the experience of being in the tasting room (now if only we could send smells over the internet!). At the ranch, you’d be treated to amazing dishes created by the executive chef, with recommendations on wine to pair with them. By adding in a recipe-pairing section, we’ve reversed it — interested in this wine? Try this recipe at home.
Initially, one of the colors in our palette was a deep black color. To us, it screamed luxury and elegance. However, the client felt it was a bit cold and stark. So we took it back to the drawing board and replaced it with this beautiful dark-chocolate-burgundy color. Just a little bit softer, complimenting the egg-shell cream colors of the background, but still creates a feeling of richness.
This project is still in progress, and I can’t wait to work with them further. We are currently in the midst of designing animations.
